Performance

StockNewsGuru Performance

The performance numbers for the POWR Ratings are based on a backtest study that was conducted in early 2022. This study analyzed stock ratings from January 1, 1999, to December 31, 2021. The backtest bought and sold stocks accordingly once a month on the first trading day after the Saturday ranking.

The data and performance returns illustrated are hypothetical. While we attempt to make the performance results shown as realistic as possible by using actual performance results from time to time, they should not be relied upon in making investment decisions.

Actual investor performance over time will depend on a whole host of factors unrelated to our forecasts, including the timing of any contribution, contributions amount and frequency, changes in intraperiod allocations, taxes, and many others. Further, the past performance of the portfolio should not be construed as an indication of its future performance. Finally, this paper also presents historical results but must not be interpreted as an indicator of future performance.

Our simulation protocol assumes trades are made on a Monday (or if a market is closed on some Monday, then on the first trading day of the week) and that they are all done in a single lot priced at the average of the high and low for that day.

We do not factor in trading costs.

They are applied on the dates they became active. All numbers presented are as of the date of the last available pricing data. As an example, if it split in January 2015 and left the database in July 2017, and you look at a transaction that would have taken place in September 2014, it’s expressed in terms of July 2017.

We treat stock dividends just like splits, except we differentiate ex-dividend date from the payment date. We apply price adjustment to all shares owned at least on the ex-dividend date. Otherwise, appropriate pricing applies subsequently for the stock.
